If you're from a desi household, you probably know that chai is a must-have drink. Even if you're not a pro in the kitchen, knowing how to make chai is a must!

If you're looking to make some delicious chai, I've got a great recipe for you. The best part is, you can customize it with any spice you like! Some popular options include saffron, rose, mint, lemongrass, or pepper. But if you're not sure where to start, ginger and cardamom are always a safe bet. So go ahead and experiment with different flavors until you find your perfect cup of chai. Enjoy!

Other Chai Recipes

This recipe is for two cups of chai, if you serve 6-8 oz in each cup.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 ½ c milk

  • ½ c water

  • 8 cardamoms

  • 1 tsp dried ginger powder

    • OR 1 inch of fresh ginger

  • 1 tbsp tea leaves

  • 1 tbsp sugar [more or less to taste]

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a mortar, grind your spices [cardamoms and ginger]

  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, pour in the milk and water and add in the ground spices.

  3. Bring to a boil, and let the mixture come to a rise 3 times. Lower the heat and stir it to bring the milk back down after each rise, then increase the heat back to medium.

  4. After the third time, add in the tea leaves and bring it to a rise one time.

  5. Turn off the heat, and mix in the sweetener of your choice- this is optional if you prefer your chai unsweetened.

  6. Strain into two cups or one ;).

  7. Garnish with saffron, and enjoy!
